Introduction

Magnolia Park Arts & Community (MPAC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by artist Jesse E. Rodriguez to support the 97% Hispanic community of Magnolia Park, Houston, through inclusive arts and culture programs and essential support.

As a native of Magnolia Park, Jesse grew up inspired by his Hispanic heritage, proud of the historic roots of his community, and well aware of the challenges kids face in the neighborhood. Determined to give back to the community that shaped him, Jesse started MPAC to help others give to Magnolia Park, too.

Art is the start. Curated exhibits give this underserved community cultural experiences that inspire them through access to culturally significant art and artists.

Art opens doors for those needing support. When art is accessible rather than tucked away in rarified spaces, it can serve the community. Seeing yourself reflected in art and interacting about a shared culture can lift the human spirit and break down barriers, enabling people to ask for help. So we provide direct support, too.

During and after the winter freeze, Magnolia Park residents were in desperate need of clean drinking water.

Senator Carol Alvarado, U.S. Congress Member Sylvia Garcia, Houston City Council Member Robert Gallegos and our volunteers answered our call.

Giveaway events with groceries, personal hygiene supplies, protective masks, reading glasses, and health & community information serve the community. Neighborhood clean-up events collecting trash and creating sculptures engage folks of all ages from the neighborhood to be both creative and improve their environment.
