Latino cARTographies
Imagine if a billboard came to life and transported you through the city of Houston.
You would not only see the vibrant Latino art set in its urban context, but you’d feel like you were there. You’d groove to the sounds of favorite Latino beats. Your heart would pound at the sight of vivid and colorful paintings and murals. You’d taste familiar flavors.
This is what we experienced when we got a preview of Latino cARTographies, a project developed by the University of Houston Center for Mexican American and Latino/a Studies (CMALS) and created by Dr. Pamela Anne Quiroz and Juana Guzman.
Now, you have the opportunity—several, actually—to experience Latino cARTographies yourself. The full-length, immersive board will be shown the first two weekends of April, 2023.
Two showings per day—2:00 PM & 6:30 PM—April 1, 2, 8, 9 at Houston Scottish Rite, 2401 W. Bellfort Avenue. Free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
MPAC co-founder Jesse E. Rodriguez aka Magnolia Grown serves on the board of CMALS.
