A little boy with big dreams

I remember riding the Metro bus my father drove through Magnolia Park, watching Leo Tanguma paint the huge mural on Canal Street.

I'm sure I was not the only child who saw himself in that painting. I can still remember what it felt like being that little boy in this picture. When art is right there in the community, not tucked away in faraway museums, it can really serve the community and lift the human spirit.

Every child deserves to have their imagination stirred. That's why I started Magnolia Park Arts & Community.

Even if they don't grow up to be an artist, arts programs can give kids another way of looking at their personal challenges or their schoolwork--or even the world.

What is your first memory of something sparking your imagination? I want to know!

I am so glad you're part of our organization from the very beginning. We're going to do great things together. If you haven't had a chance to look through this website, please do. Let me know what you think. Have a great weekend!
